Summer is a great time to explore the world and hit the mountains in a mountain bike. If you want to hit the mountains, you don't need to personally own a mountain bike, you can rent one to take on your summer mountain adventures.

#1 Care Routine

First, you need to figure out what the care routine is for the bikes that you want to rent. Ask and figure out how the bikes are taken care of. Do they clean and lube the bike after each bike rental? Do they fix all the broken parts after each rental? Do they keep maintenance records for the bikes?

These are important questions to ask, you want to make sure that the bike that you rent is taken proper care of. You don't want to rent a bike just to have it break down on you while on your ride.

#2 Judging Damage

Second, find out how the show determines what is regular wear and tear on a bike and what is considered damage. This information will help you determine how the bike shop takes care of its bikes. It will also let you know what type of damage they will see as normal wear and tear should you rent a bike from them and what type of damage you are going to be charged extra for should it happen to the bike when you are renting it.

Keep in mind that just like when renting a car, when you rent a bike, you should check it and report any damage or wear and tear that you see on the bike before you rent it. That way, you will not be blamed and responsible for any damage to the bike.

#3 Pedal Types

Third, find out what types of pedals that the bike has. The types of pedals that the bike has determines what type of shoes that you will need to wear while riding the bike.

If the bikes have flat pedals, you can wear regular shoes with the bike. If the bike has flat and SPD combination pedals or just SPD pedals, you are going to need to make sure that you bring SPD shoes that you can strap into the pedals or rent some for your ride.

#4 Type Of Parts

Finally, figure out what types of parts the bikes have on them. Do they come with the stock equipment or is cheaper equipment put on the bikes to save them from damage. If you want to rent a high-end mountain bike, you want to make sure that the high end mountain bike comes with all of the high end parts that it should. This is a good way to make sure that you are getting the bike that you are paying to rent.
