How To Run Your Dispensary More Efficiently

With cannabis becoming legal in an increasing number of states, there has never been a better time to operate a dispensary. However, you may have trouble keeping up with the increased traffic your store is receiving as more people turn to cannabis products for medical and recreational use. You need to increase your store's efficiency to increase your profits! Here are a few ways to achieve just that.

1. Invest in modern POS software for tablets.

If you are still cashing people out at one main register, this could be slowing down your sales. People don't want to wait in long lines to check out. If they have to wait more than 2 - 3 minutes to check out, they might go to a different dispensary next time.

One of the best ways to expedite checkout is by investing in dispensary POS software for tablets. Each of your employees can carry a tablet around, and when a customer wants to check out, they can just flag an employee down. The employee can check them out, right then and there, just by scanning the product code on their table. The buyer can also scan their card (or pay via their smartphone) right on the tablet. Another bonus to this approach is that it opens up more room in your store—you no longer need to leave a wall bare of product to accommodate a cash register.

2. Consolidate your strains.

Offering a lot of strains may seem like the best way to attract more customers, but in reality, it complicates your inventory and limits the amount of each strain you can carry. If customers show up hoping to find one strain and you are out of it, this can frustrate them. It's better to cut back your number of strains somewhat, and stock more of each one so you never run out. Five or six each of indica-dominant, sativa-dominant, and blended strains is quite enough. Just pick the best, most in-demand ones, and your customer base won't complain.

3. Sell More Edibles and Cartridges

Fresh flowers are so much harder to sell because they go stale and need to be handled carefully. Cartridges and packaged edibles last longer and are easier to display. Start to focus your business more on these forms of cannabis products. Advertise them heavily, and display them prominently. Within a few months, you should be able to stock less fresh weed and more packaged products.
