Gauley River - West Virginia: Whether you're new to the sport or you've taken a few trips on whitewater rafts in the past, the Gauley River area has sections for just about everyone. Downstream, the actual Gauley River has rapids to challenge and excite even the most experienced of rafters. American River - California: If you're like many people, the Colorado River is probably the first place that you think about when considering taking whitewater rafts down a river in the western US. However, the American River is another fine choice. Like other rivers, there are sedate stretches where you can go tubing or do regular boating. The river itself consists of 3 parts, or forks, each of which has rapids for a different skill level. If you want to start off with something easy, head to the South Fork where there are class II and class III rapids to be run.

Deschutes River - Oregon: The Deschutes River has about 100 miles of its length that are suitable for whitewater rafts. If you want to be able to be out on the river for several days, the Deschutes River may be just what you're looking for. If your family doesn't want to go whitewater rafting with you, they can enjoy the beautiful campgrounds and other various activities on and around the river while you head off on your exciting river adventure. Unlike some other recreational sites, the Deschutes River can be utilized throughout the entire year. However, the rapids themselves may be more exciting during certain parts of the year; you may wish to contact park officials for more information.
