Kayaking is a great way to get out and enjoy nature. If you have a kayak or are getting ready to buy one, you need to make sure that you have a way to store your kayak for those times when you aren't using it. Storing your kayak safely and properly should help to prevent any damage while you aren't using it. If you just leave your kayak out in the elements without any kind of protection, then you risk things happening and even creatures taking up residence in your kayak. So, what are some of the different ways that you can store your kayak?

Standing Racks

A standing rack is generally a free-standing unit where you just place your kayak and your paddles. There are various configurations of racks that you can choose from, which can hold varying numbers of kayaks depending on the size of the rack. There are also fixed racks and adjustable racks. An adjustable rack will let you adjust the width of the stands, which will let you use it for a number of kayaks, and will give you some flexibility. You can also move the racks around so that they are where you want them to be and where they won't be in your way.

Overhead Storage

Another option is to use overhead storage. That includes racks that are installed on the ceiling, which you can just put your kayak into. There are also suspended storage units that you can use. Generally, with these units, there is a pulley system suspended from hooks installed on your ceiling. When you need to put your kayak away, you place it in the slings and then lift the kayak up so that it is out of the way. One of the benefits of using overhead storage is that if you have limited storage space, you can still utilize the space underneath where the kayak is stored, which will let you double up on space. You generally aren't using the space near your ceiling, so you are taking advantage of that wasted space. Before you use one of these storage units you need to make sure that you install them securely, which means installing them in joists with anchors.

If you have a kayak, you want to make sure that you are storing it correctly and safely so that when you want to get out and use it, your kayak is ready to go with no problems. Contact a kayak storage service for more information.
